The university has five faculties (Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics) with more than 20,000 students. Paderborn University offers 10 different programs in mathematics education, which enroll about 2000 students. With the Center for Higher Mathematics Education (khdm) and the German Center for Mathematics Teacher Education (DZLM) it contains two influential institutions in mathematics education. With altogether eight professors in mathematics education Paderborn University hosts one of the largest research groups in mathematics education in Germany.

Paderborn is a dynamic city with a history of 1,200 years. Today, the city counts approx. 150,000 citizens. Walking through Paderborn is like walking through the centuries. The cityscape unmistakably mirrors the city’s eventful history. Among the many interesting landmarks are, for instance, the city hall, the reconstructed Imperial Palace, the Cathedral and the (more than 200) springs of the Pader — Germany’s shortest river. The center  contains more than twenty historical buildings of all architectural epochs.
